CMIMC hosts the CMWMC (Carnegie Mellon Winter Mathematics Competition) every fall. This contest is open to all middle and high school students. We encourage students to participate regardless of prior math contest experience. Everyone who participates in CMWMC is also encouraged to attend our spring math contest, CMIMC.
The contest will be held in-person at Carnegie Mellon University on October 25, 2025.
Registration is open now. The form will be open up until contest day, and we also allow on-site registration. There is no selection process for CMWMC, anyone who registers is welcome to show up.
All contestants and coaches must fill out this waiver, which includes:
Release form for minors (under 18 years old)
Release form for adults (18 years and older)
Completed waivers should be uploaded to the registration form above.
The individual round contains problems on Algebra, Number Theory, Geometry, Combinatorics, and Computer Science. This round will be 60 minutes.
Teams will work to solve 4 sets of problems where for each set, each team member works on one problem of the set and passes their answer to the next team member, who will use that answer to solve their own problem, like a relay! No communication between team members is allowed, and you will only have the previous person's answer slip and your own question to work with. You don't have to wait for the person before you to finish before you start working on your problem. Each of the 4 sets is 10 minutes, but there will be a small time bonus granted to teams who submit their final answer slip before the 6 minute mark.
Teams will work together to solve 7 sets of problems. After completing one set, a team member will need to run and submit their papers up front and retrieve the next set. Teams cannot return to edit answers from a previous set. Scores will be calculated and posted in real time so that teams can gauge their standing. This round will be 75 minutes.
